Virtual Yard

Virtual community support for Caymanians overseas

First and Last Wednesday of the month – on Zoom

Cayman Connection works with the Cayman Islands Government Office in the UK (CIGO-UK) and partners to provide wide-reaching support for Caymanians overseas.

WHAT’S ON IN THE VIRTUAL YARD

The Virtual Yard offers a wide range of programming for Cayman Connection’s diverse membership. Offerings include: health & wellness events, arts & cultural activities, seasonal cook-a-longs, Q&As with notable guest speakers, casual member drop-ins, member competitions, networking opportunities, CIGO-UK talks, and more.

Meetings are held on the first and last Wednesday of the month and are hosted by Cayman Connection staff with special guest hosts invited for webinars and events. The first meeting is a Virtual Yard Chat – an opportunity to get together for a casual, member-led conversation on a variety of topics. Drop in for a light-hearted conversation at any time during the hour-long session.

On a quarterly basis Member Orientation is also held in the Yard, with specific dates (Wednesdays or other days) announced in advance of the meetings. These sessions are for members – new and existing – to learn more about Cayman Connection, engage with the network, and share about themselves and how we can support them.

Curated by the Cayman Connection team, sponsored by the CIGO-UK with input from members, the last Wednesday of the month is informed by quarterly themes: Health & Wellness, Culture, Environment & Sustainability, and Education & Careers. Virtual Yard programming also reflects local and international happenings and seasonal observances.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

In March 2020 at the start of the Covid pandemic, Cayman Connection – in conjunction with the Cayman Islands GOvernment Office in the UK – introduced ‘The Virtual Yard’ via Zoom – a safe, online community for Caymanians to reconnect, take part in a group activity, share stories, and support each other during an unprecedented time in our history.

The weekly Wednesday meetings caught on quickly, bringing together students, professionals, retirees, and families with ties to Cayman. As of 2022, Virtual Yard Meetings are offered twice per month, to allow for the expansion of other Cayman Connection programmes including Mentor Connect, various clubs such as CCFitClub and growing the networks outside of the UK.

The Virtual Yard continues to be a hub for connecting members with each other, and to home.
