Student Life in Brighton

As I wrap up my second year at the University of Brighton, I would like to take the time to reflect on all the wonderful qualities Brighton has to offer for any UK- bound students who may still be deciding where they would like to study or for those simply looking for a quick change of pace.

One of the main reasons I was interested in studying in Brighton was the fact that it is located by the seaside. I must admit being in close proximity to the water has been incredibly comforting to me whilst I have been living abroad. Although Brighton beach is nothing like the beaches, we’re accustomed to in Cayman it has its own unique charm with fun attractions such as Brighton Pier.

Brighton is also known for its openness and acceptance, making it a welcoming place for people from all walks of life which was incredibly reassuring as an international student. This inclusive spirit is reflected in the numerous community events and the vibrant LGBTQ+ scene, including the famous Brighton Pride, one of the largest and most celebrated pride festivals in the UK.

Although Brighton is a smaller city there is always something new to see with many cafés, restaurants, galleries, museums, colourful boutiques and vintage shops in North Laine and The Lanes. These areas are perfect for finding hidden gems, from retro fashion to handmade crafts. In addition to this, Brighton is famous for its lively nightlife, with numerous bars, clubs, and music venues. There’s always something happening, from live music gigs to themed club nights. Even if you are someone that enjoys a slower pace, Brighton also has beautiful green spaces to enjoy. Parks like Stanmer Park and Preston Park offer spots for picnics, jogging, and outdoor activities. The South Downs National Park, which is just a short drive away provides stunning landscapes for hiking and exploring nature. So there truly is something for everyone to explore!

To conclude, Brighton has several amazing qualities that help to truly mold the student experience making it a great place for students who are moving to the UK for the first time. However, I strongly recommend that when you are looking at potential areas to start your studies you consider your personal preferences to ensuring that you pick the correct city for you.
