OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS COVID-19 Commemorative Exhibition Project –
Deadline for Caymanians overseas – 4 December
The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands in conjunction with the Cayman Islands Government has launched a “Call for photographers” for a virtual exhibition to showcase diverse experiences of lockdown. This call has now been extended to Caymanians overseas!
Message from the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands:
We are living through unprecedented times both locally and on a global scale. As our community continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic and its aftereffects, documenting our experiences is incredibly important.
Personal photographs of how the pandemic has affected your daily life will help us keep a record of what it was like to live through these times and provide future historians with the everyday lived experience. Subsequently, the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Government, is launching an online photography project to reflect how we, individually and as a community, dealt with this unique moment in our history.
The National Gallery now invites Caymanians overseas to submit photographs about what it was like living as a Caymanian overseas both during lockdown, and as restrictions began to ease: waiting in line at the grocery store, virtual gatherings, virtual learning/gym classes, emptiness of streets, and separation from family and friends. Are you a parent at home with children – how did you manage work/homeschooling overseas? How did you stay connected to family and friends back home in Cayman? Or are you a frontline worker? What did it look like if you went out for a walk or to the grocery store overseas?
Up to five photos may be submitted per person for consideration along one or more of the following themes:
- Overseas Life (home schooling, leisure time, wellness at home/the home-from-home environment in lockdown)
- Work life (working from home/Zoom meetings, or Frontline Worker experience overseas)
- Wellness and outdoor time overseas
- Community overseas (celebrations, social connections, supermarket visits, Zoom socials etc)
All images must be submitted electronically with the completed application form to project@nationalgallery.
Selected photographs will feature in a three-month online exhibition via the National Gallery website.
In addition, select winning works will be published in the Cayman Islands COVID-19 Commemorative Publication, produced in print and digital format, which is a project of the Cayman Islands Government (to qualify for this segment of the project images must be submitted at a minimum of 5-15 MB).
