On 26 May 2021 over 20 members joined a special Virtual Yard Meeting to discussing the History of Carnival, and how it arrived to Cayman’s shores.
With Caribbean Carnival curiosity, a glass of someting good, and some with even a flag to wave as we enjoed an informative Q&A style session with special guests, Dr. Henry Muttoo, accompanied by some good ol’ calypso and soca music by our dynamic pan duo Michael Lemay and Jimmeh La Pierre.

Henry Muttoo is a veteran of Caribbean arts & cultural practices and is one of the region’s foremost Theatre Arts practitioners. He is an award winning actor, director, and designer whose work has been produced in the region, the USA, London, Holland and Canada. Henry’s early theatre training was completed at the Theatre Guild of Guyana during a seven-year apprenticeship between 1964 and 1970. His formal training was done at the University of the West Indies (Theatre Practices – Advanced Acting, Directing and Stage Management); Croydon College of Design and Technology – three-year full time professional Diploma in Theatre Design with majors in Settings and Costume Design; Manchester University/Rose Bruford College UK. (MA – Theatre Practices). He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Arts (Honoris Causa) from the University College of the Cayman Islands.
Henry has been involved in regional Arts and Culture for over 50 years.
Muttoo is also a professional painter, carnival designer, author and amateur calypso and Carnival historian
Michael Lemay
Michael C Lemay is a Caymanian Steel Pannist with over 25 years of experience in live music and entertainment. He is the founder and director of the Pan’n’Riddim Steel Jamm Band, the reigning champions of the ‘Pan in de City’ Steel Pan competition 2015, 2016, and 2017. Pan’n’Riddim also took home the award for the best band during the 2012 Carnival in Honduras, winning over 56 talented competitors. In 2016 Michael was awarded the Silver Star for Creativity in the Arts by the National Cultural Foundation for his contributions to the development of arts in Cayman through music.
Lemay is a veteran of the Cayman Islands Tourism Industry and leaves an air of smiles and tropical melodies in the hearts of his listeners. Lemay makes his steel sing sweet calypso melodies and melismatic tropical tunes that the world needs to hear. He has performed as ambassador to the Cayman Islands in destinations such as Toronto, New York, Detroit, Arizona, and Honduras. Michael also teaches Steel pan at the St Ignatius Catholic School, and at Grace Academy, and hosts his own afterschool programme as part of the Pan’N’Riddim Youth Jamm Band.
Jimmeh The Boss
Founder and bandleader of Fresh Carnival, Olujimi La Pierre, better known as “Jimmeh The Boss” is an internationally known steel pannist, revered for his natural talent for music. Taking his brand to the next level, Jimmeh the Boss is making a big name for himself, both on and off the island, as a prodigy of the Cayman Islands with Trinidad and Tobago in his veins.
Throughout his career he has performed around the world at major Soca, Reggae, Jazz & Carnival festivals/events as well as produced music for huge artists in. the industry of Soca alongside his entertainment company which executes successful party events all year round.
