Mentor Connect Programme

In 2022 we are continuing our efforts to build a culture within Cayman Connection of members supporting each other to succeed.

We help members find professional contacts with the aim of forging connections between professionals in various fields, and members seeking advice, support and guidance related to these fields.

Cayman Connection understands the importance of having a network of knowledgeable persons to call upon, regardless of where you are on your career path, as well as the fulfillment that assisting others in reaching their full potential brings. The relationship between mentor and mentee is mutually beneficial, as each gains insight and knowledge from the other, an invaluable opportunity for growth on both sides.

MINIMUM COMMITMENT REQUIRED OF MENTOR/MENTEE:

  • Start between 01 Jan and 01 March 2022
  • 2 hours per month
  • 6 Month Period
  • Participation in Mentor Connect Virtual Yard Meeting in September

Mentees

Having a mentor can be the most important addition to your network when you are trying to make decisions, build your future, reflect on your next steps, have the door ‘nudged’ open for you, or  just be shown the way.  Mentors bring with them skills, knowledge and experience in particular fields, and it is important for you to know what kind of guidance you require from them. Perhaps you would like their input on settling in the UK (or elsewhere) and pursuing a career, or moving back to Cayman and isolating appropriate places of work; you might also wonder if it is necessary to pursue additional qualifications, or need advice on starting your own business…the list goes on, but be prepared with your ‘asks’ and remember, it has to be ‘your goal’.

The Mentor Connect team will connect you with a mentor most suited to your needs, based on the information you provide us.  Mentor Connect will run for 6 months with mentors and mentees meeting for a minimum of two hours per month (virtually).

Mentors and mentees may also agree to continue their professional relationship beyond the 6 months periods, but Mentor Connect only requires monthly communication from the mentee for the official period.  Once the official period has concluded, mentors and mentees will come together at a virtual Mentor Connect panel discussion to speak about their experiences and be recognised publicly for completing the programme.

You can be both a mentor and a mentee in what we hope to be purposeful, supportive and invigorating programme.  Simply fill out the appropriate forms expressing interest in both areas.

Registrants will be fully briefed the Mentor Connect Programme, and you may decide at that time if you are able to commit to the programme at this time.  We do understand that plans change, and we are here to support both mentors and mentees.  We look forward facilitating and cultivating a rich space for personal and professional development for all involved, and thank you in advance for your contributions.

We look forward to connecting with you.

Becoming a Mentor

Being a mentor is a valuable and rewarding way to give back and pass on knowledge gained from formal education, the workplace, and life experiences.  If you have a proven track record in a particular field (knowledge, skills, experience) and have a strong desire to share your passion for what you do with others and guide them on their own path, mentoring might offer a wonderful opportunity to fulfill this desire.  Mentor Connect is open to persons in the UK, Cayman, USA and beyond, who work in any number of areas including, but not limited to: finance, law, medicine, health and wellness, IT, logistics, marketing, media, education, tourism, business management, arts and culture, food and beverage, and more.

As a mentor, your commitment would be two hours per month for 6 months, at times to be agreed upon with the mentee.  Mentors and mentees may also agree to continue their professional relationship beyond the 6 months periods, but Mentor Connect only requires monthly communication from the mentor for the official period.

I am currently an undergraduate student at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in Nottingham, UK studying to be a Graphic Designer. I have recently completed my Associates of Science in Computer Science degree at the University College of the Cayman Islands in Grand Cayman. My career goal is to be a well-known graphic designer in my community.

I chose this area as there is no boundaries as to what one can create. It’s where one can freely convey messages through visuals and art as this field plays a very crucial part of the marketing world. I feel that being able to express how I view the world through art is something very intriguing as everywhere I go, I am able to view logos and advertisements through a designers’ perspective and to understand how and why it came to be.
