Connecting Caymanians Across the UK
Cayman Connection, in collaboration with the Cayman Islands Government Office UK, successfully hosted the Virtual Regional Meetups series, a four-day online initiative designed to unite Caymanians living and studying across the United Kingdom.
Held via Zoom on four consecutive evenings, the series connected Caymanians in key regions including the Midlands, the West of England and Wales, Scotland and the North, and London and the South.
Engaging and Informative Sessions
The virtual meetups provided an engaging and informative platform for students, professionals, and members of the Caymanian diaspora to connect, share experiences, and strengthen community ties. Attendees had the opportunity to meet Dr. Tasha Ebanks, Cayman Islands Government Representative to the UK, alongside members of the CIGO UK team.
The sessions were also supported by Global Lead Student Ambassadors Gabriella King and Kayla Jeffers, along with student ambassadors representing the regions in which they reside, who helped facilitate discussions and encourage meaningful activities among participants. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from Executive Director Ashlea Akinwumi (Webster) about what Cayman Connection has to offer and how registering as a CC member can add value to the student experience.
Reflections from Leadership
Cayman Islands Government Representative – United Kingdom, Dr. Tasha Ebanks Garcia, Cert. Hon.
Following this, Dr. Tasha Ebanks Garcia shared her reflections on the event, highlighting the importance of connecting with students abroad:

“It was a pleasure to meet virtually with Caymanian students in the UK and to hear about their experiences. While they may be far from home, they are not alone. We encourage them to contact our office at info.cigo@gov.ky should they require assistance or have any questions. We wish them every success and look forward to the next opportunity to engage with them.”
Global Student Ambassador Kayla Jeffers also shared:

“It was amazing partnering with the Cayman Islands Government Office for the recent Virtual Regional Meetups. Their commitment and care for students overseas could not have been more evident. The passion for creating a strong Caymanian student community really shined through, and it was incredibly rewarding to connect with other students studying all across the UK. During the Virtual Meetups, we were able to develop meaningful connections by sharing our personal experiences.”
The Virtual Regional Meetups were more than networking sessions; they provided a valuable platform to hear directly from students to understand their needs and how we can respond appropriately. Attendees shared feedback on how the organisation can continue improving its support systems, programming, and engagement efforts to better serve Caymanians studying and working in the UK.
The series also reinforced collaboration between The Cayman Connection and the Cayman Islands Government Office UK, demonstrating a shared commitment to fostering a strong, connected, and supported Caymanian community abroad.
