I caught a breath at some point in the first week of October and I couldn’t help but reflect on an amazing Eco-Friendly September with Cayman Connection

It was the last month of our Q3 Environment and Sustainability theme, and so everything we had been doing with Cayman Connection programming was in line with being more considerate to our environment and climate change, particularly what we can do on small and larger scales which has given me a lot of food for thought about what difference we can REALLY make. It is so easy to wonder how my reduction of 15 plastic cleaning bottles to three in the home is really going to make a difference in the scheme of things and leads me back to the old adage about the need to focus our efforts for change to the large international companies and at international Government level, and not in our little lives, but I stop myself, again as we must all do our bit though however small, so I continue as best I can! Looks like my electricity company Bulb may be the next to go, so back to Ecotricity hopefully, and a review of the surviving energy companies is on the cards.

I am pleased that we have as an organisation continued a wider conversation internationally with organisations, institutions and individuals about the larger-scale projects this month and am very proud of the achievements of Cayman Connection as a whole in September, so I feel they warrant mention here.

We enjoyed talks with Annick JackmanCatherine Childs, @JamesEllsmoor, Sangeeta Laudus#IslandOffsets#NationalTrustfortheCaymanIslands#GreenHorizonPerspectives and @BillLamont #PlasticFreeCayman and Kate Holden (Nee Pellow)#CCMI-CentralCaribbeanMarineInsttitute with the great @EdenHurlston as our guest host, we had first sight of the all-new Sustainability Charter from #AmplifyCayman and were able to consider and commit to our own pledges.

…..and for some fun we enjoyed a Recycled Art Workshop with the fabulous Tanya Saunders of Make+Paint. Loved some time out with paint and scissors.

Thanks to the Greener Futures event we were able to instigate a partnership that delivered an excellent showcase of the Cayman Islands on the international stage highlighting the mangrove protection project alongside international efforts as part of the Green Horizon Perspectives series, all in the lead up to #cop26 with the City of London Corporation. (National Trust of the Cayman Islands at 3:08 – 6:31).

We had our first ever “Movie Night” with the absolutely lovely Tamer Soliman – I’ve learned so much more about coconuts and am looking forward to #TheGreatDisconnect…and best of luck with fundraising for Farming – The Next Generation!
