Cayman Connection Hosts Successful Hybrid University Advisory Workshop for Triple C Students
April 2025
Cayman Connection proudly hosted a hybrid University Advisory Workshop on Saturday 31 March 2025, offering invaluable guidance to students and parents from Triple C School. The session, led by Cayman Connection’s Global Student Ambassadors, provided firsthand insights into studying overseas in the USA, Canada, and the UK.
The workshop was held in person at the George Town Library with a virtual option for those unable to attend. The initiative was sparked when a Triple C School parent reached out for support in understanding the intricacies of tertiary education overseas. Ms Ebanks was looking for information directly from current university students as an extension to the comprehensive guidance given by the careers teams at Triple C School. Cayman Connection responded by assembling a team of knowledgeable student ambassadors who shared practical advice on applications, visas, travel, banking, health, mental well-being, and cultural adaptation.
The event featured dedicated sessions for each region:
- USA: Eddie Webber, a recent Master of Public Policy graduate from the University of Michigan, led discussions on fee assessment processes, dorm vs. apartment living, safety tips, and emergency resources.
- UK: Ayanda Jones, Lead Global Student Ambassador, compiled the presentation and guided students through independent living, handling homesickness, and recommended study habits.
- Canada: Gabriela King, a former Triple C student now studying at York University in Toronto, shared personal experiences and helped students prepare for seasonal changes, settling in, and fitting into a new environment.
The workshop concluded with an engaging Q&A session where attendees asked about settling-in timelines, clothing and shipping considerations, visa requirements, passports, and more.
Tania Ebanks, a representative of the Triple C School Parent Body, expressed gratitude:
“We, the Parent Body of the 2025 Class of Triple C School, sincerely thank Cayman Connection for answering the call for more resources for those tertiary-bound. With such incredible responsiveness, a comprehensive presentation, and an amazing group of multi-jurisdictional student volunteers led by Ms. Kandiah, this offered amazing insights and, most of all, comfort for students embarking on the next stage of their academic pursuit.”
Reflecting on the event, Ayanda Jones shared:
“Hosting the inaugural introduction to living and studying abroad presentation alongside my fellow student ambassadors was truly a rewarding experience! The dialogue shared between our regional ambassadors and the Triple C School community highlighted not only the strength of our young Caymanians embarking on their first journeys overseas, but also their commitment to staying connected and supporting each other. Seeing their excitement and aspirations was inspiring and it was a privilege to be able to put on such a great event for our growing network.”
Eddie Webber continued “The Cayman Connection event at the George Town public library with the students and parents of Triple C’s graduating class couldn’t have been a better experience for us all. The audience was incredibly attentive and enthusiastic about what we all had to say as student ambassadors. Their questions and concerns were quickly answered visibly reducing their stress for their academic journeys abroad. It was a pleasure to co-host the event in person with Ayanda and have the support of Gabbie, Kayla, and Kate remotely. Cheers to a great event and I’m looking forward to doing more with other local school students and their parents in the future!”
Following the event, Cayman Connection and Triple C School are planning their future partnership, to ensure that students considering tertiary education overseas get the best all-round support possible. This partnership will help to guide the students on their journey overseas, support them throughout their time abroad, and assist with their return home to reintegrate into the world of work in Cayman upon graduation.
Cayman Connection welcomes further collaboration with schools and parents seeking similar guidance.
