So… another green challenge! I say another as it’s not my first (nor should it be!). Back many moons ago in 2014, with my previous business Angel Oversees, we went on a mission to be sure all our services were as environmentally considerate as possible.
When you manage a portfolio of over 40 properties that can be quite tricky, and we certainly didn’t want to “greenwash”. We did our best, but it was not easy. I also took on a NO PLASTIC NOVEMBER challenge back in 2016 (example week 3 here)which was a real eye-opener to my habits, the possibilities and the challenges of trying to live a “convenient” efficient and balanced life whilst also being plastic-free – VERY HARD!!
My point here is that I made the attempts and was aware but very quickly slipped into bad habits, it is a really good reminder for me how easy it is to shout about being green to make small attempts but not actually bring it properly into your living FOREVER. So I want to lick and chew on that before starting this challenge.
This is the difference I want to make this month – to change my habits, however small – FOREVER – we can’t be perfect – it is impossible to live a totally eco-friendly life unless I move my 2 horses, 2 dogs 2 children and partner to a makeshift hut in the woods, cut off all communication, quit work and grow my own food. Let’s be realistic.
So my mission is to review what I have done in my life to be more thoughtful to the environment, what has worked and what has not…why didn’t those habits stick and how can I make them stick.
I have dug out all of my eco-home books and am going to start by having a good read…call it procrastination if you will… but to me it’s gearing up, getting ready and making a plan!
I love reading so this shouldn’t be so hard, should it?
