As we expand on Q3’s Environment & Sustainability theme, we’ve invited guests from the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, Island Offsets, Island Innovation, Green Horizon Perspectives to share their research, experiences, programmes, and initiatives that are setting global standards in conservation, locally.
Watch our meeting below, hear about important topics and learn what these organisations are doing in the efforts to mitigate Climate Change in the Cayman Islands.
Islands Innovation is a global network that connects island stakeholders through digital communication and events. Our platform helps drive sustainable change across island and rural communities by sharing innovative projects and best practice. Island Innovation is a social enterprise that works with private sector companies, governments, universities, NGOs and utilities to connect them with the island stakeholders vital to the success of their sustainability projects.
James Ellsmoor:
James Ellsmoor is a writer, entreprenueur and sustainability expert, who has lived and worked in the Caribbean, United States and Colombia. James is the co-founder and CEO of Island Innovation, a social enterprise and digital media company which runs the Virtual Island Summit, promoting cross-sector collaboration and the sharing of best practice in sustainable development. Island Innovation originally started as a newsletter collating stories about sustainable development on islands across the world, and developed into a social enterprise running virtual events, working with remote islands around the world, linking them together to encourage sustainable development.
The Cayman Islands National Trust has been protecting the future of Cayman’s heritage since its inception in 1987. We are a nonprofit, non-governmental organisation created to preserve the history and biodiversity of the Cayman Islands.
Through education and conservation we work to protect environmentally sensitive and historically significant sites across all three Cayman Islands.
Annick Jackman:
Annick Jackman is the Cayman Islands National Trust’s Executive Director. With a keen interest in preserving Cayman’s unique environment and heritage, Ms. Jackman’s prior expertise encompasses advertising and marketing, strategic development of Latin American markets and high-profile events in Cayman’s tourism sector. She has also been heavily involved in public speaking training through the Toastmasters Organization. All of which will be an asset to the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.
Island Offsets is working to ease the transition to a renewable energy future for the Cayman Islands by helping to finance expensive changes to existing infrastructure and by increasing awareness of existing alternatives. To preserve the natural environment of the Cayman Islands, we must address climate change head-on. By offering local businesses the ability to offset their carbon emissions right here at home, we are providing a key mitigation measures for our country.
Catherine Childs:
Catherine Childs is the Environmental Programmes Manager for the National Trust for the Cayman Islands. Cathy holds a master’s degree in Environmental Science with a specialisation in Climate Change, having a particular interest in nature-based solutions to the climate crisis. Although originally from the Texas, she has lived in the Caribbean for more than 30 years. Cathy has worked with the NTCI since 2013, joining as the Education Programmes Manager, and is passionate about the conservation of Cayman’s natural heritage for the benefit of future generations.
Green Horizon Perspectives a series of live digital magazine shows focusing on the issues that matter to accelerating the mobilisation of climate and nature positive finance which follows on from the Green Horizon Summit 2020, as well as setting the stage for COP26, outlining the priorities for the finance stream on the road to Net Zero.
Sangeeta Laudus:
Sangeeta is a marketing and business development professional, passionate about climate change initiatives, green finance and sustainability. Formerly a debt capital markets lawyer, Sangeeta has been working at the City of London Corporation on strategic campaigns and external programmes with a specific focus on COP26 and leading on the development of the Green Horizon Perspectives series. Sangeeta has also been an Island Innovation Ambassador for the UK and Cayman Islands since the inaugural Virtual Island Summit in 2019. Sangeeta is driven to promote sustainability and help create a positive impact and spent a short time living in the Cayman Islands, an experience which left a lasting impression, and has developed a strong connection to the island. Sangeeta currently resides in the UK.
