“Jawara Alleyne grew up between Jamaica and the Cayman Island before moving to London to study, and recently graduated from MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins. Jawara’s work as a designer is deeply rooted in contemplations of identity and his research discerns a relation between the body and adornment, to both our deeper sense of self and overarching sense of identity.”

Jawara Alleyne:
“A common misconception of designers is that our job is to make clothes but really our job is to research, to ask questions, to tell stories, to inspire and sometimes even to call on feeling of discomfort that asks viewers and customers to think through clothing. There’s such rich history in the clothes we wear even in the Caribbean and fashion design, really if nothing more; is the social study of people through the garments they wear. It’s sociology, anthropology, political science, sometimes even psychology.”
