Student Sunset Send-Off 2026 Helps Caymanian Students Build Connections Before Moving Overseas
Caymanian students preparing to study overseas were brought together for an evening of connection, peer support and practical preparation at Cayman Connection’s Student Sunset Send-Off 2026, held at Grand Old House on Saturday, 8 August.
The annual event welcomed students heading to the UK, USA, and Canada as part of Cayman Connection’s wider student support programme, to help students feel more connected, informed and confident about the transition ahead.
Throughout the evening, students took part in interactive activities that encouraged them to get to know each other, share how they felt as they prepared to leave home, and connect directly with Cayman Connection’s Student Ambassadors for insightful advice and top tips.
“Being a Cayman Connection Student Ambassador is especially meaningful to me because I understand how difficult it can be to leave home and adjust to life abroad. Having experienced homesickness myself, I wanted to be someone who could offer encouragement and support to students going through a similar experience. It was a pleasure to represent Cayman Connection at the Student Send-Off and remind students that, even while they’re away, they still have a community back home cheering them on.”
– Abigail Rivers, UK Student Ambassador
In addition to supporting students before departure, Cayman Connection launched its new Member Portal, which provides Caymanian students overseas with access to resources, events, career development opportunities and peer-to-peer connections throughout their studies.
A special performance by Jaylxn, Caymanian Christian hip-hop and gospel recording artist, was one of the evening’s highlights and helped mark the introduction of the new Cayman Connection Christian Community, which will provide an additional space for Caymanians at home and overseas to connect, encourage one another, and grow in faith while studying abroad.
“The Cayman Connection Student Send-Off 2026 was a reminder that there are people who genuinely care about and want to support young Caymanians in their academic careers. My favorite part of the event was sharing my own experiences at the University of Surrey with first-year students and having meaningful conversations with the professionals in attendance. I’d encourage all students to reach out and make use of the resources Cayman Connection offers. There’s real support available if you’re willing to seek it out!”
– Atira White, Student in the UK
The Student Sunset Send-Off forms part of Cayman Connection’s broader commitment to supporting Caymanians throughout the entire overseas student journey – from pre-departure preparation and settling in overseas, to career development, returning home and transitioning into the workforce.
“The Student Sunset Send-Off is one of the most important events in our annual calendar because it creates an opportunity for Caymanian students to come together before they leave home, build connections with others who are embarking on a similar journey and hear directly from those who have already experienced life and study overseas. We know that leaving Cayman can be an exciting but also daunting transition, and our aim is to ensure that students leave the evening feeling reassured, better prepared and knowing that they have a community behind them while they are away.
It was wonderful to see students and parents come together for such a relaxed and enjoyable evening, while also having meaningful conversations about the realities of studying and living overseas. The connections made between students, ambassadors and the wider Caymanian community are incredibly valuable, and we hope these relationships continue long after they leave our shores.
We are incredibly grateful to all of our sponsors, partners, volunteers and supporters who help us make this event possible, with particular thanks to Cayman National Bank for their generous support. We are also immensely proud of our Student Ambassadors, who remain one of Cayman Connection’s greatest resources. Their willingness to share their own experiences, offer honest advice and support the next generation of Caymanian students is at the heart of what makes this event so special.”
– Ashlea Webster (Akinwumi), Executive Director of Cayman Connection
Cayman Connection extends our thanks to Cayman National Bank (CNB) for sponsoring the event, as well as Grand Old House, goodness.ky for their donated gifts, Jaylxn, the Student Ambassadors and volunteers whose contributions helped make the evening possible.
