On Wednesday, 5 October, as a follow-on from the Cayman Islands Government Office in the UK (CIGO-UK) June event entitled “Sentinels in the fight against climate change”, Cayman Connection facilitated a partnered Virtual Yard Meeting – the finale in our Environment & Sustainability quarter – hosted by CIGO-UK.

“We were delighted to host The Stopover: Cayman’s Migratory Birds and their connection to the global ecosystem as part of Cayman Connection’s Environmental webinar series,” shared Dr. Tasha Ebanks Garcia, the Cayman Islands Representative to the UK.

This followed on from the webinar we hosted during London Climate Action Week in June, which celebrated the role migratory birds play in the global ecosystem. Last week’s Virtual Yard Meeting put a special focus on the critical importance of the Cayman Islands as a stopover for migratory birds, and the need to preserve their natural habitats as well as educating us on the different species of birds which visit our islands and how we can each play a role in looking after these creatures with simple adjustments to the way we live.”

We invite you to view the replay of this meeting, particularly if you are interested in activities in the Cayman Islands specific to migratory birds, as well as in the global ecosystem and the importance of birds’ role in it as it relates to climate change.
