For the first time ever, we held a hybrid online/in-person Yard meet up! We had members as far away as Canada in the Virtual Yard mingling with our live crew hanging out at Snoozebox Hotel – the venue for Cayman Day 2022.

We introduced ourselves, reconnected with old friends and introduced new faces to the group, We chatted through what we are all doing, including fashion design, magazine editing, Cayman Day planning, restaurant and hospitality management, and all in relation to our connection to Cayman. We talked about our aspirations and plans for 3 and 5 years and sought ways we could help each other achieve these goals.

The August Virtual Yard Meeting also flowed into another exciting event – Socasize with Ashlea Jade Smith.

What a special double event this was for all involved (and reliable sources tell us that after Cayman Connection management signed off for the evening, the chatting went on until the wee hours of the morning!).

We were able to hear from our people – some regulars, some fairly new to the virtual safe space – about the current endeavours including studies, work, artistic pursuits and more.  It is such a great place to get and give support, and we highly recommend all members coming out to enjoy some light conversation and lots of laughs.

We also recognised that carnival has been in full swing in the UK for some weeks now and it was only appropriate to offer members an extended meeting with a twist during this period: soca fitness plus exercise to get us up and moving or at least swaying and singing to the rhythms of the Caribbean.  Ashlea Jade Smith always gets us in a good mood with her blend of carnival classics and contemporary hits, and her dance choreography is suitable for all levels of movement.

Attendees will agree that the Virtual Yard space is a place where anything can happen and together, we make it what we want it to be.  A place for commenting on politics in Cayman and around the world, for championing causes, for stimulating others to make a difference, for laughing at ourselves and poking fun to lighten the mood, for sharing the latest on just about everything, for moving and dancing and celebrating life, for communing.
