July’s virtual yard chat was such a delight and we enjoyed seeing so many new faces!

We could have used two hours to really delve deep into some of the topics raised, but even in the hour, we were able to touch on a range of topics including current UK politics (and the astounding number of resignations handed in in the past 48 hours); the differences in pronunciation and naming of trees from district to district (and island to island); how Bodden Town and Savannah as well as Prospect and George Town are proud of their distinctions (insert laughing emoji here); the progress made on the mental health facility in East End; the best place to find jerk pork and even jerk goat in South London (as well as delicious roti and doubles); updates on the Brac poetry retreat; health and wellness journeys; job hunts; university studies; Cayman-inspired merchandise; Cayman Day excitement…and the list goes on!

The purpose of sharing these highlights is to encourage members to come out to enjoy unscripted, organic conversations with other members from across the globe.  In the 6 July meeting, members dialed in from Cayman Brac (and we even got a little glimpse of Little Cayman!), different parts of Canada, as well as the UK, but members never actually know who will join us, or from where!  This is precisely what makes coming to the Yard exciting – every meeting the dynamic changes as do the topics for discussion.  Need a place to relax or vent or share?  Come to the Yard!

Perhaps one of the most positive aspects of the chats is learning more about each member’s personal and professional milestones; it reminds us all of the noteworthy achievements of our people living around the world.  It should also be mentioned that attendees show great interest in assisting other members on these calls, offering recommendations and support whenever possible.  We are fortunate of coming from a relatively small community, so the answer to a question or the solution to a problem, is usually only a phone call away for Cayman Connection members!

If you haven’t made it out to one yet, come join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, 3 August at 6pm BST – it’s a great way to spend an hour at the beginning of the month, reflecting, laughing, reminiscing and feeling supported by a community.  Let’s connect.
