The Annual Student Reception in London took place at the Cayman Islands Government Office in the United Kingdom on Saturday, 28th November. Students joined The Honourable Premier, Cayman Government Officials and friends at another fun event of catching up and feasting on some delicious Caribbean food.
This reception is historically a time when students can come together, meet Government Officials and receive updates about Cayman before heading back home for the Christmas break.
Cayman Connection UK (CCUK) is an organisation founded to connect Caymanian students and friends in the UK. Launched in 2014, this networking group is predominantly run by our student members called ‘Cayman Student Ambassadors’ and co-ordinates events in conjunction with the London Office.
Events include networking and socials, and most recently a call out to students and friends to host their own Cayman Thanksgiving on Sunday 6 December to celebrate Caymanian culture in Europe with their friends and family. The students have worked on a video to share about being a Caymaninan in the UK and previously have been involved in a Caymanian pub quiz night, a law networking event sponsored by Mourant Ozannes, a poetry reading with the BBC and involvement with the Department of Tourism at county shows.
CCUK is an inclusive organisation that thrives on the input from its members and is an excellent branch of Caymanian culture and spirit in the UK. Caymanian students and friends are encouraged to register on the CCUK website (https://www.caymanconnection.org) if they wish to receive information and updates. Details for all events are posted on the CCUK website, Facebook page and Twitter feed. Information is also sent in newsletters as well as ad hoc specific event direct emails to all those who have registered.
The London Office actively encourages those who are not registered to do so and to connect via one of the social media channels. CCUK is always keen to hear the stories from students and their ideas for future events, so if you have contacts in the UK be sure to let them know about CCUK!
