The Cayman Islands featured as the most prominent Caribbean country at this year’s Annual Caribbean Council Reception at the House of Lords on 24 March. Honourable Premier Alden McLaughlin, was joined by the COO of Dart Enterprises and the Department of Tourism (DOT) in promoting Cayman at the event.
Cayman Connection UK was present with members of the Friends of Cayman and two Cayman Student Ambassadors among the 300 guests, the majority of whom were from parliament, government and the business community. CSAs Moya Williams and Amber Caum not only joined the guests but also assisted with the organisation of the event. Julie Phillips, Programmes and Events Co-ordinator for the Caribbean Council commented that the students “were an absolute pleasure to work with and definitely made a difference to the organisation of the event. We hope we can offer them some other opportunities in the future, and have urged them to keep in touch.”
This event demonstrates another great opportunity for our Cayman students in the UK to meet and work with some of the top-level industry and government leaders in the UK.
DOT promoted Cayman as a tourism destination and assisted with co-ordinating a prize holiday to Cayman for the prestigious raffle. Transatlantic flights to Jamaica were offered by Virgin Atlantic, and flights from Jamaica to Cayman were sponsored by the Department of Tourism and Cayman Airways, accommodation was sponsored by the Caribbean Club and Dart offered a £50 spending voucher for Camana Bay.
