Over forty students and friends came together for the second CCUK Cayman pub quiz at a tucked away pub in central London on 19 May this year.

Guests were treated to a three course meal and drinks including jerk chicken wings, caribbean pressed sliders, patties, curried oxtail croquettes to start, followed by salmon and pineapple salsa, slow cooked curried lamb shoulder with rice and beans and callaloo fritters for mains, toped off of course with some Rum Cake!

The quiz was separated into four sections 1) Easy General Knowledge, 2) History/Culture/Nature 3) Current Affairs 4) Creative Cayman!  The First section tested the very basics of knowledge of Cayman, this was a warm up to get the participants going and to share some general information about Cayman with our non-Caymanian friends, including questions about the beaches, dive sites and the functions of the Cayman Islands Government office and Department of Tourism in London. Section two comprised questions about Caymanian artists, music, festivals and nature in Cayman. The Cayman elections dominated the topic of the third section, where guests were tested on their knowledge of candidates, constituencies and the election process in Cayman. There were also fun additions about events happening in Cayman in May. The last section was a chance for guests to get creative. There were no real right or wrong answers, as guests we asked to comment on Cayman adverts from the 1970s and presented with a true/false question about Cayman ‘mutt meet-ups’ in the UK called Cayman Canine Connection UK (CCCUK)!

“These events are typically occasions where Cayman students and friends get together and talk about Cayman, share UK experiences and have some fun far from home. The quiz itself is also a great opportunity to not only test knowledge of Cayman but to showcase and share news and activities of CCUK and the London Offices. We are thinking up many more fun events like this for the future!” Kate Kandiah, CCUK Co-Founder.

A fun evening was had by all, with thanks to the sponsorship from the Cayman Islands Government and Angel Oversees Ltd.
